Ghandi's Great Grandson Tushar Arun Gandhi

Tushar Arun Gandhi is a great-grandson of the pre-eminent Mahatma Gandhi, and the son of journalist Arun Manilal Gandhi. As a socio-political activist of peace issues, Tushar continues the advocacy and spread of Gandhian values and principles of the contemporary era.

In 1996, Tushar was appointed President of the Lok Seva Trust, a voluntary organization working with factory workers and the economically disadvantaged of Mumbai, in the fields of education, legal aid, and healthcare. In 2001, he was appointed to a sub committee of the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti National Museum by the Prime Minister of India. He also established the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation to make Gandhi’s message available globally through the use of the Internet. In April 2005, the Foundation was awarded the first Mahatma Mahaveer Award for promoting the ideals of Gandhi.

Tushar’s international involvement includes participation with the US-based peace organization Seeds of Peace, which empowers young leaders from regions of conflict with leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence. In August 2001, he was invited by an NGO Peace Initiatives, to visit Kashmir and meet with separatist leaders to explore the possibility of achieving peace through development and economic programs. The year 2005 marked the 75th Anniversary of the 1930 Salt March where Tushar organized a 241-mile walk for ‘peace, justice and freedom’. Over 600 participants from, India, Pakistan, United States, United Kingdom and other parts of the world marched in this walk.

Tushar has worked with Global Exchange on the past two Gandhian Legacy Tours and this is his first collaboration with EcoArts Tours. EcoArts Tours is honored to partner with Tushar in spreading Mohatma Gandhi’s ideals from his personal perspective.
